HARLEM _ Construction has begun on Feadship’s 4th shipyard, a state of the art facility _ 35m (115 ft.) tall _ in the Port of Amsterdam. When finished, at the end of 2018, the yard will let the pure custom superyacht builder manufacture vessels of up to 160m (525ft.) and carry out refits of existing Feadships.
The Amsterdam yard raises the number Feadship construction locations to 4. “This major investment illustrates our determination to be fully future-proof,” says Feadship Director Jan-Bart Verkuyl. “The average length of the superyachts we are building continues to grow: the majority of projects currently underway are above 80 meters and there is a clear trend to go ever larger.”
Size limitations at 2 Feadship yards near Amsterdam led the superyacht builder to look for an additional location. The Amsterdam yard has easy access via a deep channel to the North Sea, about 20 miles away. It will boast a 35m tall build hall and 10, 3-story workshops. Feadship employs over 2000 specialists in every superyacht discipline: design, engineering, naval architecture and construction.
