MAKKUM _ At the 2018 Düsseldorf Boat Show, Jachtbouw Gebroeders van Enkhuizen showed off its no-nonsense Noordkaper yachts and premiered a striking, aluminum newcomer: the Enk-Sail 50 (above).

It comes hard on the heels of the yard’s 25th anniversary. “In 1992 we could not dream that one day we’d build yachts that till then we could only admire at boat shows,” says Ronald van Enkhuizen.

In collaboration with Sea Level Yacht Design & Engineering, his yard also markets high quality Enk motor yachts, ranging from 13 to 24m.
The company has come a long way and is looking for dealers across Europe. It also seeks a US dealer for its luxury Sossego motor yachts of 22 to 30m.
The yard began in 1992 as a yacht service company. By 1999, it was making its own sail and motor yachts, all reliable, practical craft.
Of its Noordkaper series (below), the yard has already delivered 18 to date. The semi-custom Noordkaper, a Martin Bekebrede design, is available in steel or aluminum. Cherry wood inside is standard. The stand-out deckhouse offers comfort and safety, adding months to a season. The model fills a niche market and gains in popularity, especially the 43 ft. version that was launched in 2004.

Gebroeders van Enkhuizen also makes one-offs. Its Enk-Sail 50 is its most radical design to date. “A superior aluminum touring yacht with a strong deckhouse,” says Van Enkhuizen.

genua, a fully battened mainsail with lazy jacks, a deep cockpit and a permanent stainless-steel sea rail. Interestingly, the galley is in the deckhouse. “This has been greeted with much excitement from many sailors,” says Van Enkhuizen.

His company’s expertise and experience reels in special projects. It recently did the technical installation on a 19m aluminum catamaran, is now building a 22m ferry, finishing an 8.5m one off and will soon start on a 19m speedster motor yacht.
