Vetus BOW PRO thruster wins Miami innovation award

MIAMI – VETUS, the Dutch maker of marine engines, generators and technical gear for recreational and small commercial craft, left the 2018 Miami International Boat Show Miami Boat Show holding an award for its Bow Pro thrusters.

The award in the Propulsion Equipment & Parts sector recognizes “exceptionally groundbreaking” work in new consumer marine products, the jury said.

The BOW PRO is a combination of Vetus’ electric bow thruster series and its quiet RimDrive. The thrusters are fitted with induction technology that renders carbon brushes obsolete. The (AC) induction motor is controlled by VETUS’ in-house-engineered motor controller and works on 12V, 24V and AC motors making the thruster suitable for almost all boats.

The BOW PRO thrusters will be available as of April 2018. The company is already taking orders. Vetus Director Marcel Borsboom: “The BOW PRO thruster is controlled by a proprietary CANBUS protocol. There are 2 panels: a fully proportional, basic panel and a fully-proportional one with lock-function.”
