AMSTERDAM – The 30th edition of the DAME Design Awards has opened for entries from exhibitors at the 2020 edition of the METSTRADE Show at the RAI events complex in Amsterdam.
Organizers say many in the marine industry had a tough first half because of COVID-19. Yet, they added, R&D “efforts have continued through the challenges of the pandemic.” making the 30th DAME Design awards event “particularly special as it highlights the incredible design efforts of the industry around the globe.”
The awards are chosen by a panel of boat industry specialists from around the world, chaired this year by Dutch naval architect, designer and yacht racer, Andre Hoek. He replaces Birgit Schnaase, who stepped down in 2019 after 8 years.
The DAME Award is organized each year in conjunction with the METSTRADE Show, the world’s largest marine equipment trade event. The design awards are held in high regard across the industry.
Nick Bice, Commercial Director of U-SAFE, said winning the 2019 overall design award was a massive shot in the arm, saying, “METSTRADE, combined with the DAME Award and a great product, have boosted our business significantly.”
The DAME Design Award was launched in 1991 to promote design in 7 key product categories. Entries are judged on the benefit and suitability for users, their level of innovation, cost-effectiveness and environmental impact.
The deadline for entries is September 18. The €150 registration fee goes to a charity which in 2020 is Blue Marine Foundation.
