2022 Tall Ships event bars Russian vessels

GOSPORT, England – Sail Training International, the UK-based non-profit that organizes Tall Ship races during the European summer months, says the war in Ukraine has forced it to ban Russian entries from the 2022 event.

Dedicated to fostering understanding across nations and cultures, the group said the decision was reached in consultation with the four 2022 host ports: Esbjerg and Aalborg, Denmark; Harlingen, the Netherlands and Antwerp, Belgium.

“The host ports,” it said in a statement, “and Sail Training International have decided that, as the current situation stands, Russian ships will not be permitted to enter the event.”

The four ports said their governments have banned Russian-flagged vessels from any of their ports.

Sail Training International is based in this town on England’s southern coast. Annually, its Tall Ships event is an unrivaled spectacle – and powerful marketing platform – that lures massive crowds to European ports.

Sail Training International stages Tall Ships sail training events worldwide. The biggest ones are in European seas, from the Baltic to the Mediterranean, and include Tall Ships Races that are planned four years in advance.
