A new Heesen breed – Home: quiet, fuel-wise superyacht

OSS, July 2017 ~ Heesen Yachts is delivering this month “the first of a new breed of cleaner, quieter and more fuel-efficient superyachts.” Home is a 50m aluminum motor yacht, designed by Omega Architects, with a Van Oossanen-patented ‘fast displacement’ hull. It has hybrid propulsion.

The 2 water-cooled DC electric shaft motors (127 kW each) deliver a cruising speed of 9 knots on electric power alone. The yard says propulsion from conventional diesel and diesel-electrical is possible independently or at the same time.

Home has a transatlantic range of 3,750nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots. Its 16.3-knot top speed comes from a pair of relatively small engines (MTU 12V, 600 kW each).

Home has a sky lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows. The owner’s main deck apartment includes a study, a full-size bathroom and a full beam bedroom, also with floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Guests are accommodated in 5 lower deck staterooms _ 2 doubles, 2 twins and a full-beam VIP suite.
