LEEUWARDEN – Breedendam Yachts has commissioned the design and sale of a new motor yacht model in its retro MTB series: the 19.6m (64ft.) aluminum MTB Sixzero Fly.
In the 1990s, the shipyard developed the Breedendam MTB into a retro-styled boat inspired by the motor torpedo boats of the British Navy in the Second World War. The shipyard sold “numerous” MTBs of assorted sizes worldwide.
Building on the success of the MTB 30 and 33, the company has now developed a series of models with interior and exterior designs by Guido de Groot. The first 13.37m (44ft.) MTB Fourzero Wheelhouse was delivered in 2017, and the largest MTB model, the MTB Eightzero, was released in 2019.
The MTB Sixzero builds on the design of previous MTB models, says De Groot. He adds,
“The MTB Sixzero was built on behalf of an existing customer who already owned an MTB 40. He was hugely impressed with the concept of the Eightzero, but due to restrictions of his home berth, his vessel was not allowed to be longer than 20m (66ft.). Although this model is a completely modern design, we have incorporated some elements of the Eightzero into the design of the Sixzero, such as the flybridge.”
The MTB Sixzero Fly has a midship main suite, a VIP suite up front, complemented by an intermediate guest cabin. Also, there is a double crew cabin behind the main suite, next to the tender garage and engine room. Part of the aluminum hull and superstructure will have a hand-painted wood texture.
The customer is having solar panels installed at the rear of the flybridge, but future clients can also use this space as a sundeck. The garage at the back of the yacht can accommodate a 3.4m (11ft) tender and the owner’s diving gear.
Although the yacht will sail primarily in Europe, diving expeditions in the Caribbean are also on the owner’s agenda. With a Volvo Penta IPS 1350 system, the MTB Sixzero can reach a top speed of more than 30 knots. Studio Delta handled the naval architecture of the MTB Sixzero.
