AMSTERDAM – Contest Yachts and Saffier Yachts won European Yacht of the Year awards, prizes normally announced in the margins of the annual Boot Duesseldorf.
Saffier Yachts came out on top in the Special Yachts category for its 8.3m Se-27. It was the yard’s 3rd victory in the contest. It won the award for the Saffier Se-26 and Se-23 in 2009 and 2011, respectively.
“We are very honored to receive the European Yacht of the Year award for the Saffier Se 27 Leisure,” said Saffier CEO Dennis Hennevanger. To win it a 3rd time, he added, “is just incredible and puts Saffier Yachts in a very select group.”
Saffiers come in two lines, classic and elegant. They are high-quality, open-cockpit sailing yachts for day or weekend touring. Founded in 1999, the company has seen rapid growth and recently expanded its business by naming 2 European dealers: one for Belgium, one for Germany.
Contest Yachts won its award in the Luxury Cruisers category for its 17m Contest 55CS, an elegant, fast, go-anywhere bluewater cruiser. One judge praised the yacht for its “immersive and uncompromising luxury.” The low-slung yacht sports a flush foredeck and low-profile deckhouse.
The European Yacht of the Year 2021 award is a contest that was launched in 2004 and is today most authoritative competition. Candidates are reviewed and tested in 3 locations across Europe by 12 judges from European sailing publications.
The 2021 competition judged these categories: Family Cruisers, Performance Cruisers, Luxury Cruisers, Bluewater Cruisers, Special Yachts.
