MEDEMBLIK – Context Yachts has been busy. Its 60th anniversary ‘Open House’ last March fell halfway between the 2018 winter launch of the yard’s latest flagship (the 26m Contest 85CS Polina Star IV) and the recent unveiling of what its 17m Contest 55CS.
The latest Contest shows the yard makes yachts that satisfy globe-circling sailors without sacrificing interior comforts and space. The 55CS, it says, is for both “the style-conscious, couples-family-and-friends luxury cruising sector” and blue-water performance racers.
The 55CS, a collaboration naval architects judel/vrolijk and interior designers Wetzels Brown & Partners, features carbon stiffening elements in Contest’s vacuum-infused molding making it lighter yet stiffer and stronger. This improves performance.
Also new: aft panoramic master suite glazing and, throughout, more light from deck hatches and a choice of hull windows. The yacht features many sail systems options, carbon or aluminum spars, cutter or sloop and in-mast or slab reefing.
For downwind sailing there is a carbon sprit with integral furling. There is a sustainable teak deck and the deck plan incorporates walk-through cockpits. The Contest 55CS comes with a 55HP Volvo Penta engine.
