Rendering of Contest 50CS

MEDEMBLIK – Contest Yachts says it is constantly looking for innovative applications and optimal comfort on board. And it says it folded these into its latest design, the 50ft CS which the yard created in collaboration with the Judel/Vrolijk design agency and Wetzels Brown Partners.

For 2021, says the yard, “we have a totally new Contest 50CS. This size has always been the throbbing heart of Contest Yachts, with each model over the years most popular for the perfect balance of sailing ease, performance and onboard comforts. The 50CS has two super suites and a third cabin option but can still be sailed single-handedly.”

The 50CS features a central cockpit and sleek hull lines. Below deck, Wetzels Brown Partners managed to free up more space and volume. From the outset, Contest asked everyone involved with this new design to focus on making the best use of the space, the yacht’s stability and even better sailing performance in both light and heavy weather.

Johan Siefer of Judel/Vrolijk explains: “One of the most important adjustments in the design of this new 50-footer is to increase the living space on the deck. This has a positive effect on the yacht’s stability and lets us create more interior volume. There is less resistance in the water, the yacht is less sensitive to heel and the vessel cuts through waves more easily making it much more stable and extremely comfortable to sail.”

Finding more space down below, made a new layout possible. By placing the aft cabin completely aft, length was gained in the boat’s mid-section, making the salon more spacious. This also allows for a kitchen that can be used on two sides of the gangway and is safe and comfortable in all weather conditions.

Another distinguishing feature: the Lloyd’s-approved, vacuum injection method with the application of carbon reinforcements. This results in a strong, rigid sailing yacht that sails without annoying noise: no creaking panels, no rattling deck ware, no sound vibrations from the engines and mechanical installations.

As usual, the best weight distribution across the entire yacht was calculated in detail. The above-mentioned adjustments had consequences for the rigging, deck layout and sail plan. Contest Yachts says the optimal balance was found to improve sailing performance in all weather conditions, without compromising stability and comfort.

The cockpit has twin-steering. The middle of the cockpit has been kept free of lines and fittings. The passageway and stairs down to the saloon spacious and easily accessible.

The yacht comes standard with three cabins as standard. The luxurious aft cabin comes, optionally, with a breathtaking panoramic window. The guest cabin at the front, has a double bed with large windows all around.
