Dutch investment firm acquires Alewijnse

NIJMEGEN _ Investment firm Strong Root Capital of the Netherlands has acquired Alewijnse Holding BV, a worldwide technical services provider to superyachts and commercial vessels. No financial details were announced.

The acquisition of the 130-year-old company dislodges the Alewijnse family from the company. Roel Nizet, the company’s newly appointed managing director, said the takeover guarantees the company’s continuity.

Alewijnse designs propulsion, electrical, ICT, automation, entertainment and navigation systems for yachts. It was founded in 1889. The Dutch company operates facilities in Brazil, China, Romania, Vietnam and other countries.

In a statement, Strong Root Capital pledged to keep Alewijnse “a leader in the fields of electrotechnical and automating systems.” Alewijnse recently won a contract to install electrical systems aboard Damen Shipyards’ SeaXplorer 77 luxury explorer yacht (left).

Strong Root Capital did not comment on Alewijnse financial health. It typically targets mid-sized trading companies, manufacturers and service providers to their improve profitability.
