BRUSSELS – The Brussels-based European Boating Industry lobby and the SeaCleaners environmental NGO of French-Swiss navigator and explorer Yvan Bourgnon, will host a webinar on tackling marine litter on May 19 May, European Maritime Day.
As a beneficiary of a clean, healthy marine environment, “the boating community is a natural ally in protecting seas and oceans,” says EBI Secretary General Philip Easthill.
European Maritime Day is an annual occasion for EU nationals to engage with maritime affairs and sustainable blue growth in events across Europe.
The May 19 webinar will feature Bourgnon, founder of The SeaCleaners, its Technical Director, Frederic Silvert and Valérie Amant, the group’s head of communications. Also logging in will be Andreea Strachinescu, a senior official in the European Commission’s Maritime Affairs and Fisheries directorate.
A key topic of discussion will be the Manta, The SeaCleaners’ flagship project. It is a unique processing ship — still in development — that will collect, treat and repurpose large volumes of floating plastic along coastlines and in river estuaries. It will be able to collect and process up to 3 tons of debris per hour.
The webinar will also debate opportunities to support and participate in The SeaCleaners mission.
The webinar is the first EBI-SeaCleaners collaboration since the Brussels-based EBI industry lobby teamed up with the NGO in January.
The webinar takes place May 19 from 1100 – 1200 CET. To register, go to bit.ly/2NwDUYK
