Good times let Icon Yachts build floating dock

HARLINGEN _ Citing healthy growth in refits, Icon Yachts is building a new floating shed. The addition _ 130 x 30 x 28m (328 x 98 x 92ft.) _ will boost the yard’s capacity by almost 100%. The floating dock (left) will be ready by the end of 2018.

ICON Yachts went bankrupt in 2014, but recovered and has since enjoyed good growth. It is today working on over 300m of yacht projects and has hired 25 new employees in the past year.

Owners of yachts built in northern Europe, says Icon Yachts, prefer its location in Harlingen, a Dutch port with access to the North Sea through tidal waters. A floating dock lets Icon Yachts work during high and low tides.

Recent refits include MY Secret, 82m, Abeking & Rasmussen; MY Global, 67m, Luerssen and MY Virginian, 62m, Feadship. Icon Yachts also builds superyachts and said this summer it has an 84m yacht under construction, a project designed by Tim Heywood.
