ZOUTKAMP _ Gruno Motoryachts has been building predictably solid and conservative steel motor yachts (upper photo) for 35 years. By now it markets 20 models of motor cruisers in the Sublime, Excellent, Trawler and Retro series. Soon the yard will soon start building a new series that _ judging by initial design impressions _ will mark a significant departure for the Dutch yard.
The Gruno Sportage looks very modern and sleek. Willy Houwen, the yard’s founder, says the Sportage will be built in 3 lengths _ 13.5, 15 and 17m. _ and in both steel and aluminum. It will be a luxury yacht with a fan bow, long cabin windows, edgy tints, an open cockpit and a tender garage.
“The yacht will be marketed with 1 or 2 engines and have a custom-finished interior,” says Houwen. “We expect to start building the first yacht this year already.”
The first to be built will be the 15m version. “We announced the project last April or thereabouts and we are getting more inquiries about the Sportage than our other models,” says Houwen. who just turned 77. “We have been building motor yachts for 50 years,” he tells this newsletter. “I just wanted to make 1 more boat.”
