MAKKUM – KM Yachtbuilders, a specialist in aluminum yacht building, has expanded, adding two painting halls. The new halls will be used to paint ships, masts and interiors.
What triggered the yard expansion was more in-house painting and the growth of the painting team. Apart from KM Yachtbuilders’ frequent use of the new painting halls, they will also offer other parties the opportunity to paint here.
“We had been struggling for some time with lack of space for our painting operations and noticed that there were also few options in the area,” says René Feenstra, KM Yachtbuilders business manager.
“After careful consideration, we decided to invest in these new halls. These new halls will also let us do work for others We are very happy with the result and look forward to doing a lot of painting work here.”
The new halls consist of two cabins. One measures 38 x 7 x 6m and can be divided into two parts. This provides space for two boats or masts. The small hall measures 12 x 4 x 4m and will be used mainly for painting interiors or smaller boats.
KM Yachtbuilders was begun 20 years ago and has since grown from fewer than 10 to more than 40 employees. Aluminium is the yard’s material of choice, says Feenstra. “It is lightweight, strong, stiff, low-maintenance, customizable and can be recycled.”
