Linssen upgrades warehousing to boost productivity

MAASBRACHT – Linssen Yachts has installed a roller track conveyor system that delivers yacht building materials and boat gear to its warehouse halls faster and in a more logical fashion.

With 30 to 35 yachts in continuous production, Linssen is highly dependent on just-in-time deliveries. But the daily deliveries had become a bottleneck, says Paul Beelen, head of marketing.

“We had 2 people unloading trucks instead of unpacking boxes,” he tells this newsletter.
“Now the drivers place the boxes and pallets on the conveyor system. At the end of the workday, we see no more unopened packages. Warehouse staff can store everything in the right place in one go. This saves a lot of time.”

Installation of the roller conveyor meant that walls and racks had to be moved so all materials needed for one yacht are now stored together. This means less search work for the employees. And only materials for a specific task are brought to the production site, not all at once.

Linssen Yachts builds luxury motor yachts of 9 to 15m and is market leader in steel yacht building. The yard covers more than 45,000 m2 at 2 locations on the Dutch-Belgian border.
