HARLINGEN _ Since 2004, NAZ-yachts has been building classic Noordkaper and Wanderer sailing yachts of 22 to 40ft (6.7 to 12m) in steel and fiberglass. This year, it adds an 11m (36ft) fiberglass Wanderer to its fleet of sailing and motor yachts known for their sturdiness, big interiors and retractable centerboards.
The new fiberglass Noordkaper-36 (Noordkaper is the Dutch name for the Right Whale) has a sheltered cockpit and a relatively low saloon so as not to block the view from the wheel station. A higher saloon roof is available as an option.
NAZ owner Chiel de Zeeuw says the new 36ft sailboat will be built at DTB, a Turkish yard and NAZ partner that builds polyester hulls. The finishing _ all the carpentry, woodworking, rigging, stainless steel parts and technical installations _ is done in the Netherlands.
The Wanderer-36 design is the work of Martin Bekebrede, who has drawn scores of classic sail and motor yachts for NAZ and others, including the Danish Rose, the Baltic Rose and the Midget.
NAZ can custom-build a yacht to 20m. It also makes 7 models of classically inspired motor yachts to 40ft. The yard can custom build to 20m (65.6ft).
