LONDON _ The ‘Superyacht Design Report calls Frank Laupman’s Omega Architects “the outstanding studio in the 45-60m motor yacht category,” adding its designs appear in the top-7 brands “for both exterior and interior design.”

The report calls that impressive as most “projects in this size range appoint just one studio to deliver every element of the yacht’s design.” Omega Architects has closely collaborated with Heesen Yachts since 2001, working on half of the almost 100 yachts Heesen has built since then. Omega Architects was created in 1995. Though it has “pre-dominantly worked on exterior projects, more than 30% of its projects are actually interiors,” says the report.

In 2017, Heesen delivered 6 yachts. In 2018 it will deliver its 100th yacht. It began the year with 10 superyachts in build, including a 60m, Omega-designed custom yacht (photo), the yard’s longest ever.

It will be delivered in 2021, achieve a top speed of 17.5 knots, have a range of 4,200nm and accommodate 16 guests and a 14-strong crew. It will have a Fast Displacement Hull Form, a patent of Van Oossanen Naval Architects _ another major partner. Its hulls yield double digit fuel savings and create a quieter, more comfortable ride.
