HUIZEN – Launching a new yacht brand is always an adventure. And doubly so in the age of COVID. Just ask Bart Reijn and Maarten van den Born.
They have launched Reborn Yachts, a brand of luxurious and fast open boats around 40ft in length. The COVID years of 2020 and 2021 kept Reborn Yachts away from boat shows. Still, Reijn and Van den Born sold three!
They came to yacht building by different routes — Reijn by studying economics and Van den Born via wood and furniture making. They share a passion for fast, modern, elegant open cockpit boats, a crowded market segment for their Reborn brand, which is a contraction of their last names.
Reborns have composite hulls to make complex shapes possible. Such as a flared bow and a tumblehome at the back, a hull feature with a convex curvature at the bottom and a slightly concave one above it. The choice of vacuum injection construction required a hefty investment, but it makes fast, serial construction possible.
Reborns sport a practical bumper from Fender Innovations. Concealed in the hull are shore power, audio speakers and a hand shower. Air intakes are worked into the cockpit’s edge. The boat features Webasto wine coolers, a push-button Krook stainless steel anchor system, a foredeck hatch, Volvo Penta propulsion, Volvo assisted docking and a SidePower bow thruster. The boat can also have hybrid propulsion.
The first trial runs in 2021 revealed a top speed of more than 42 knots.
The first three Reborn models are Cabin and Bowrider versions of 38ft and a 40 ft flagship with high-end accommodation upfront and a bigger swimming platform with hydraulic stairs.
All cockpits boast a specially designed table, an outdoor galley and a refrigerator.
Reborn Yachts has two commercial support offices in southern France and southern England. “We are going to fairs in Cannes and Monaco this year,” says Reijn.
