STEENWIJK – Steeler Yachts has a knack for making ground-breaking motor yachts. Remember its European Powerboat of 2014? That 46ft Panorama Flatfloor ? Now the Dutch yard introduces the Flyday, a concept designed to please a variety of boating aficionados.
At first blush, the 16.5m (55ft.) aluminum Flyday looks like another performance motor yacht that can chomp a lot of blue water white. It can achieve a top speed of 40 knots.
But, wait! The FD55 S Performance – a Steeler Yachts collaboration with the Vripack design and naval architecture studio – has a flybridge. And a hydraulic bimini. But it is no run-of-the-mill, full-beam flybridge yacht. It is a cruiser with a massive lower deck – part of a split-level layout – and the looks and lines of a powerboat.
Steeler Yachts says “it is in some respects the ultimate day boat.”
It began building the first Flyday in the spring. It features a fore and aft deck, a flybridge (4 steps up) and a generous interior (4 steps down) with a seating area with 2 sofas. There is a master suite forward. A glass door lets the light in as do large port and starboard strips of glass.
Steeler Yachts offers clients a choice of 3 interiors:
—An ‘Owners’ version’: a large living and lounge area with a bar/galley in combination with a master bedroom with a full bathroom and a separate day head.
—A ‘Family’ version: living, galley, master bedroom with full bathroom and a double guest cabin with a toilet.
—A ‘Family & Friends’ version: living area, kitchenette, master bedroom with shower, 2 double guest cabins and a toilet.
Steeler Yachts gave Flyday standard a Volvo Penta IPS800 that, with help from Steeler Yachts’ patented S-design hull, renders a top speed of 40 knots.
