LELYSTAD – The Stratos Yacht – a new boatyard in the Netherlands – has launched its maiden Dutch Built 50 motor yacht that CEO Bas Lengers calls the “new benchmark for the 50 ft yachting category.” He added, “I can confidently say that the SB 50 is the most seaworthy vessel in its class.”
The brand and model were conceived by Lengers, who took over a shipyard this year because he says he always dreamed of marketing his brand and poured over 40 years of experience into the DB 50.
Lengers founded Lengers Yachts in 1970. Now with seven offices in five countries, the company is an official dealer of the high-end brands of Sanlorenzo, Prestige, Bluegame and SACS.
“I felt that what was missing was a sturdy, robust boat that is truly seaworthy and of superyacht quality,” says Lengers. “A boat you can take out in all weather conditions. Let’s say an SUV on the water.” The Dutch Built 50 is a Bernd Weel design. The Sea Level studio handled the naval architecture and engineering.
The DB 50 will be available in 2023. The 14.66m yacht has a beam of 4.45m (15ft.) and a draft of 1.28 m. (4ft.) It has a vinylester (composite sandwich construction) hull and carbon superstructure. The yacht boasts twin Volvo Penta D6 IPS650HP engines (optional 2 x D8 IPS800). The top speed is around 36 knots.
Jeroen van der Knaap of Sea Level is excited about the Dutch Built 50, “especially because the engineering goes even further than the superyacht standards of today.”
“To make the Stratos DB 50 as strong and rigid as possible, a special grid was designed, which is unique for a ship of this size. Extra-thick, high-end composite sandwich materials were used for the hull. The superstructure is made of lightweight carbon fiber. As a result, the center of gravity is low, which benefits stability and unique sailing characteristics. The extremely high-end construction has resulted in a CE Class A vessel.”
