AMSTERDAM – Britain’s Triskel Marine was named overall winner of the DAME Design Awards at the 2018 METSTRADE show for its Integrel Advanced Generator Replacement Technology that provides ample electrical power on board without a conventional generator.
Integrel adds variable electrical load to the main engine, pushing it “to its most fuel efficient point and delivering both propulsion and generation with incredible efficiency,” said the DAME jury.
It named 6 category winners, but left one without a winner saying nominees in the ‘marina and boat yard equipment, boat construction tools and materials’ category did not meet its award standards. The 6 category winners are:
Marine electronics and marine-related software
Spinlock Ltd. (UK) for its Sail Sense, a multifunctional sensor, invisible & lightweight, that attaches to a sail. It measures key data such as UV, hours of use, G-Force and flogging. Sail-Sense links with an App to deliver analytical & performance data.
Interior equipment, furnishings, materials and electricals fittings used in cabins
Vimar SpA (Italy) for its Electronic Switch 8in 7out 3M, a new solution for the control of lights and blinds in yacht applications. It has a touch plate with 6 independent controls, 8 input and 7 output signals and can be integrated into specialist systems that manage on-board automation systems.
Marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials
No winner named.
Deck equipment, sails and rigging
Harken Inc. (USA) for its CLR pop-up Mooring Winch for power and sailing yachts. It offers the torque of previous units, in less than half the size and 1/3 the weight. CLR saves designers seeking clean deck layouts, critical room below. So small, CLRs mount at the bow and in aft corners to make ‘stern-to’ docking simple.
Clothing and crew accessories
Rooster (UK) for its 100% neoprene-free, 2-piece Exofleece sailing wetsuit which can be used by high performance dinghy sailors with a neoprene allergy.
Life-saving and safety equipment
Shakespeare Electronic Products Group (USA) for its patented Galaxy-Infl8, the world’s first inflatable emergency VHF Antenna, offering a full 3dB high visibility unit, compared to standard small helical Galaxy designs.
Machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings
Triskel Marine Ltd (UK) for its Integrel is Advanced Generator Replacement Technology. It is a new smart way of providing significant amounts of electrical power on board without a conventional generator.
The awards were announced at the outset of the three-day show in Amsterdam’s RAI convention complex. The DAME Design Award represents the most significant marine equipment competition of its kind in the world. For 28 years, it has focused attention on the art and science of design in all aspects, from styling, functionality and innovation, through to ease of implementation, practicality of use – and even packaging.
The award is judged by a panel of top naval architects, boat, interior and industrial designers, plus user experts. Winners are selected from half a dozen categories.
