SCHIEDAM – VETUS has launched the E-Line, a compact, complete, highly efficient, plug-and-play electric propulsion system for boats, new and old. The E-Line drive works with the V-CAN bus system and meets all current and future emission requirements.
The E-Line system marks a new era for the Dutch company that for half a century has been making marine engines, generators and technical equipment for recreational craft and small commercial vessels.
Vetus excels in offering innovation through design. It supplies some 4,000 technical products, mostly or partly designed by the VETUS engineering team.
VETUS supplies the complete E-Line package, from shore power to propeller. It says the motor controller has been specially developed for electric boating. The E-Line motor comes with a smart, water-cooled 48 V controller that makes it possible to charge the battery bank with a 24V battery charger.
It is the only electric drive with an ‘active motor braking’ system, i.e. you can go forward and back without a time delay as the motor slows down.
The E-POD makes no vibration or noise. The propeller design is based on submarine props and has been tested by the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN). The propeller is enclosed around the perimeter so there is virtually no cavitation. Also it is more efficient than a conventional propeller. Its effective thrust has been greatly improved so less power is needed to drive the boat compared with a conventional propeller.
The E-POD works with the Vetus proprietary CAN protocol (V-CAN) and is easily connected to the existing CAN line in the boat. Additional cables are then also unnecessary. The installation is simple, and maintenance is minimal.
