This is the first article in a 3-part series on VETUS’ electric propulsion strategy
SCHIEDAM – Electric propulsion is all the rage these days. However, to VETUS, the Dutch developer, maker and marketer of marine engines, generators and technical gear for recreational boats and small commercial vessels, it is very déjà vu.
With its EP2200 engine, VETUS created the first electric propulsion solution some 20 years ago. Now, it is back with a new electric propulsion package, the E-LINE inboard motor and E-POD system that accelerate more powerfully and faster than a diesel engine.
The E-LINE engine and the E-POD can be used together with the VETUS BOW PRO proportional bow or stern thruster. It can also be purchased as a complete system, including thrusters and steering components to fully outfit a vessel.
Thijs Boegheim, Vetus EMEA Sales Director and Global Marketing Director, says the E-LINE and E-POD solutions “make it possible for more boat owners to experience and enjoy their surroundings in total silence.”
They also reflect “VETUS’s continued focus on enhancing the boating experience and preserving the environment,” he added.
The motor controller has been specially developed for electric boating. The E-LINE motor comes with a smart, water-cooled 48 V controller that makes it possible to charge the battery bank with a 24 V battery charger.
Also, the E-LINE is the only electric drive with an “active motor braking,” which means you can go from forward to reverse with no need for a time delay while the motor slows down. In other words, just like a crash stop with a diesel engine.
VETUS gives standard a 3-year warranty on equipment and a 5-year warranty on engines.
