Vripack working on 2nd Nordhavn project

SNEEK – Vripack, the Dutch marine design and engineering studio, is working on its 2nd collaborative project with US expedition yacht maker Nordhavn.

The 495GT, 45m Nordhavn 148 will be Nordhaven’s largest yacht and the first in steel and aluminum. The builder – Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc. of North Palm Beach, Fla. – expects to deliver the first in under 2 years.

Nordhavn 148

“Nordhavn was keen to tap into our explorer heritage,” says Marnix Hoekstra, co-creative director at Vripack. “Nordhavn boats are renowned for venturing to remote off-the-beaten-track destinations. So, the aim was to demonstrate to owners this significant latest model has been conceived by a design studio with a proven track record in this arena.”

The N148 will be Nordhavn’s first metal yacht. And as the company’s next flagship it will be built to a greater structural integrity than any other Nordhavn. “We’ve talked about building a larger boat for a while now,” says PAE Vice President. “That would be something specifically meant for the most challenging worldwide conditions.”

Hoekstra says his studio made sure the N148 will exceed minimum explorer qualities. “This was a specific request from Nordhavn in order to remain competitive and in-line with market trends.”

Nordhavn 148 interior

PAE turned to Vripack, mindful of its successful partnership with the Dutch studio on the interior of the Nordhavn 80 and Vripack’s experience in steel building. “We will use each other’s expertise to produce an exceptional, extraordinarily capable yacht,” says Leishman.

The Nordhavn 148 comes advertised as a blend of Nordhavn DNA and Dutch styling.
Its 495GT interior volume of 495GT is 25% larger than the N120, the current flagship. The N148 will boast an ice-capable hull, a large engine room and enough room to store away two 8m tenders.

Vripack’s designs are backed up by decades of experience in naval architecture and engineering. Its portfolio spans 7,400+ designs.
