LEMMER – Wajer Yachts has launched a 23.5m Wajer 77. A tippy-toe marketing campaign began last November whetting the appetite of potential buyers. That worked well: the Wajer 77 is the Dutch yard’s biggest. Wajer Yachts sold more than 15 of them from the drawing board
If Vripack designed the Wajer-38 and 55, Van Oossanen Naval Architects worked on the aluminum-hulled flagship. The 38 and 55 models are made of GRP composite.
The 77’s aluminum hulls are outsourced in the Netherlands and finished at Wajer Super Yachts. Like all Wajers, the 77 celebrates outdoor living: it features spacious circular seating, sun pads, large sofas and a dining area at the back. The yacht brims with water toys — sea bobs, electrical jet surfboards, a Williams 325 tender, kiteboards etc.
The new flagship comes with amazing features and numbers: It has joystick-steering, dynamic positioning and a 4,800-liter (1,270-gallon) tank, good for a 400-mile range. The yacht has a beam of almost 6m (20ft) and is powered by 3x Volvo Penta IPS 1200 D13-900 HP. It achieves a top speed of 37 knots, a cruising speed of 30 knots.
The yard paid much attention to reducing noise, reduction, not just through high-quality insulation of the engine room, but also by placing the interior as a floating box in the hull.
The Wajer-77 sleeps 9 across 4 air-conditioned cabins, each with its own bathroom. On-deck seats can be electrically arranged, along with tables – a new Wajer feature. Also new: when mooring the 77, no fenders go overboard. The yacht features a built-in system that deploys fenders from small openings and that inflate automatically.
The Wajer-77 is a super-cool yacht in many respects.
A deck-cooling system sprays a cool mist from numerous nozzles. A cooling system under the foredeck prevents passengers from burning their feet on hot days. And the automatic Targa roof has a built-in fan for extra cooling.
The yard normally builds 50 to 55 fast, high-end open cockpit yachts. During the COVID pandemic, buyers ordered yachts over the phone. In Q1, the yard says, it sold at least two dozen boasts.
Not hurting Wajer Yachts much was a remarkable marketing coup in the US when Tom Brady – the winningest American football quarterback ever – ordered a Wajer 77 after leading his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
