WASPIK – Bart Van den Hoven is a relative rookie in Dutch yacht building. He started out in 1992 building a 10m boat. For himself. As a hobby.
By now, his Van den Hoven Shipyard has built 55 motor yachts, mostly in the 15 to 18m (49 to 59ft) range. But the yard is now working on a 25m (80ft) yacht.
“With this project, we want to enter the superyacht world, where design, finish, comfort, materials and appearance set the tone,” says Van den Hoven. The Voyager-80 is a comfortable seagoing motor yacht. So, safety and robust build quality play a prominent role. The interior is generous, suitable for a long stay for 8 guests and 20 crew members. The flybridge with its spacious seating area, the aft deck with table and chairs and the swimming platform provide an impressive outdoor area.”
For years, Van den Hoven built steel yachts. But lately he has developed a taste for aluminum. He has just finished a fast aluminum Voyager 61 Flybridge that he started as a spec-built project in 2020.
And he just started on an aluminum Voyager 50 Coupé that will do 22 knots. The exterior is the work of designer René van der Velden. The naval architecture is by Studio Delta.
“There is already a lot of interest in this ship,” says Michelle van den Hoven. “The design clearly follows the lines of the other Voyagers, but still looks sporty with compact and slim lines. The gangways offer enough space to walk safely from front to rear. The cozy aft deck is very suited for al fresco lounging and dining. It suits the glamour of the Mediterranean very well.”
Van den Hoven is not abandoning steel construction.
The yard is currently working on an 18.5m Executive Flybridge (to be delivered this summer) and a 17m MK2. Of the latter, Van den Hoven says, “The hull was finished in May and the boat is being finished right now. It is being built on speculation so buyers who get on board in time can still get it finished in accordance with many of their wishes.”
Additional lounge areas can be found on the foredeck. There is room for a tender on the hydraulic swimming platform. Below deck, are three roomy cabins and two bathrooms.
Van den Hoven will display the Executive 1850 Flybridge and the Voyager 61 Flybridge will be shown at the Sept. 1-5 HISWA in-water boat show
